Penultimate Port Macquarie

We were now on the home stretch - two days left to get to Sydney. Our next destination was the right kind of distance, and was the recommendation of the Australian families, as it was where they lived - Port Macquarie. Another easy two hours, during which Jemima and I watched Shrek for the first time (lots of fun), and we'd arrived.

It was lunchtime, so we parked up in town near another one of the lovely tasty/healthy food cafes they have everywhere, with tables outside full of ladies lunching (always a good sign). And after yet another lunch of good food and great service (I love Australia), we had a little walk down to the jetty at the end of the road.

Port Macquarie is on a river mouth, so there were a lot of options for getting out onto the water; and it turned out one of them, a rather lovely Chinese junk, was setting off in half an hour for a two hour trip with tea and cake. It was another breezy day (the Australian families had said it felt like the end of summer - we even got our duvet out for the first time last night); so a little river cruise sounded like a perfect plan for the afternoon.

And it was. The skipper was another one of the tourist guides/ stand-up comedians that they seem to have all over Australia (what are the three rings of marriage? Engagement ring, wedding ring, and suffer-ring; and one for Jemima: what do you call a man with no arms and no legs in the water? Bob). That is my level of humour, so I was happy; Jemima and I did some more of her activity book; and we all ate cake and enjoyed the view - more amazing waterfront real estate among more gorgeous unspoiled nature. A lovely afternoon.

Then it was a short drive to the campsite just on the breakwall of the river, with a very nice swimming pool, so in Jemima went, thankfully with armbands so we could watch from a sunbed enjoying the late afternoon warmth. A Greek salad, and the day was done. I was feeling the countdown (I never like good things coming to an end). One day and night left before the motorhoming is over...
