Motorhome musing/ introducing Beatrix

We are now in our second week (already!). The main conclusions so far:

- I have brought too many clothes for Jemima and I (no surprise there); but my slightly frightening buying frenzy to kit out Beatrix was at least partly to good purpose. The collapsible kettle and bowl, and the electric mossie swat, have all been brilliant; so far the door alarm and 12v hairdryer have not been used. I will have to see what the end tally is... Kevin says that there is too much stuff in the garage and he can't get the bikes out easily (although I still think some/all of it might come in useful - but that is another difference of perspective...). But the most useful bit of kit has been Kevin's internet gubbins that means we have wifi all the time, even driving - amazing. (It says something about the modern world - or our approach to it - that this is so important, but it's true...);

- things are now mostly working, and even more so, we now mostly know how to work things. We've probably done everything/ turned everything on and off at least once. The main exception is the freezer, which won't open. It feels like something is caught under the catch, the likely culprit being a frozen apple crumble which I decided to bring (I know, I know bringing pudding to the land of pastries, but it seemed a shame to leave it). Anyway, I am regretting it now;

- and the biggest thing: we have completely changed our sleeping plans. Originally Jemima was going to be in the bed which drops down over the front seats, and we were going to be in the rather more comfortable rear bedroom, that has an en suite bathroom when the dividing door is shut. But actually she is now sleeping in luxury, because it's better for us to relax in the kitchen/ living area once she's asleep (and Kevin was worried about her falling out of the high bed). A benefit for me is that I can sneak out to do yoga, and then make a cup of tea, before the others get up.

We are all finding motorhoming pretty easy (barring the odd bit of grumpiness). Beatrix is big enough for two adults and a toddler to avoid tripping over one another, and living in a mini house is really fun (although you have to be very tidy, which I find an effort). The driving, which Kevin does, is comfortable, especially as we usually travel during Jemima's naptime. And as we three are at home all the time anyway, the togetherness hasn't come as a shock. And the main advantage, the joy of being able to see new places, and get up and go at a moment's notice, is still very fresh. At this stage, I can understand how people do this full time - but I'll see if that changes by the end of week 8...

Naptime (Jemima's car seat fits neatly in the corner of the sofa, although it stops the table moving, which makes moving around the lounge harder):

Dawn yoga (the sun actually rises at about 8am so this isn't quite as hardcore as it sounds - although it is bloody freezing, especially on bare toes. And sorry about the cliched pose...):
