Reprise

Theme 1: swimming. We returned to the pool this morning, for more paddling and playing fun. It was hot enough for me to move into the shade at one point. Jemima loved playing with her toys in the shallow pool, and we all enjoyed an ice lolly. Then home for a barbecue lunch.

Theme 2: the joys of camping. Our Spanish neighbours opposite were having lunch at a similar time to us today. Or rather, they started their preparations as we sat down - yesterday their lunch ran from 2-5pm, and included wine in a proper ice bucket, chicken, beef and then fish grilled on the barbecue, plus various exciting-looking side dishes. We were jealous. Today, they could see we were curious when the man started heating a stiff bit of fish in the flame of a camping stove. Then he came over to offer us some - he spoke no English and my Spanish is still rubbish, but I could get the gist that it was like salt cod but smaller, and it was very tasty. Then his wife offered us some dried tuna, which was delicious. And very generous - all we have that's English is Branston Pickle and Kevin and I decided that that probably didn't cut the mustard, so to speak. But a lovely moment that you wouldn't get without camping.
