So, I left you enjoying a beer in the late afternoon sunshine in a pretty Aire on our first night. It was all looking so good. Then, after failing to find the promised electric hook up in the Aire, and with the sun going down, we realised our battery wasn't working - ie no lights, heating or water. So we had to move. Jemima, dirty wine glasses and the camping table bundled back into Beatrix and we were off into the gloom to find a new place to sleep. Our sat nav tried to drive us into the sea. The next Aire (in the pitch dark) also had no hook ups visible despite me searching on foot with my iPhone torch (Jemima broke our actual torch on the journey down). So, now 8pm, desperate leafing through a camping guidebook found one nearby. I phoned, they answered, we were saved! No, we were lost in French lanes (the guidebook said don't follow the sat nav, follow the signs. What signs?!). But a lovely French couple stopped, asked if we were lost, and led us to the campsite gates. A final bit of Laurel and Hardy as I tried to understand French instructions on how to open the gate - but then we were in. With all utilities. And for €12. But not quite the relaxed and easy first night I had planned...
Anyway, here are some pictures of Jemima enjoying her first trip to the French seaside (from near our first stop):
Wow! A first ride on a French carrousel!! Well done Jemima. Granny xx
