"We will fight them on the beaches..."

We have now embarked on our journey proper, 2-3 hour hops towards the sun via as many interesting places as possible. Today's stop-off: the Memorial in Caen, a huge museum about the Second World War, its build up and aftermath. Musuem visiting with Jemima is an art - find pictures and objects and ideally films that will distract and entertain while we try to absorb the rest. Luckily this place was full of toddler-friendly elements, one of the best being an amazing echo chamber designed (I presume) to simulate the roar at a Hitler rally. But we did resort to Abney and Teal on the iPhone while we watched a moving commentary-free film on the D-Day landings. A brief stop at the American war cemetery in Saint-James concluded our D-Day day; and now we're in another Aire ready for a trip back five thousand years tomorrow - the standing stones of Carnac.
