Board games and a barbecue

The sun was shining as we took our leave from the Verdura, after another enormous breakfast. Our farewell was as friendly as our stay, with the genial driver who took us back to Beatrix picking oranges off a tree as a present for Jemima. We drove off through the scent of orange blossoms, as we'd arrived.

As lovely as our stay had been, it was great to be back in Beatrix. We didn't drive far, just a short hop down the coast to a campsite on the beach. This had been recommended to us by another camper, and as is sometimes the way, it didn't quite live up to expectations being a bit down at heel (although it was a good beach). But we had a fun afternoon playing board games in Beatrix; then Kevin and I had a beer in the sunshine while Jemima got her playdough out, before a very nice barbecue (asparagus and red pepper, expertly cooked by Kevin, plus tasty but unknown stuffed meaty parcels I'd bought from the shop down the road). I felt happy doing the washing up. It was the kind of afternoon you can only have when you have your own stuff around you (games, toys, a means to cook your own meals). It's good to be back in our moveable home.
